Ground floor
Kitchen/Diner/Lounge area
We have tried to retain the French “cottage” feel to this room
by keeping the old fireplace surround, but installing a modern
wood-burning stove which warms the whole cottage if required in
spring and autumn. The lounge area, with sofa and chairs, leads
to the well-planned kitchen area with built-in work surfaces and
cupboards under and over. Appliances include automatic washing
machine, gas cooker, microwave oven, fridge, kettle, filter
coffee maker and toaster. There is a plentiful supply of
cutlery, crockery and kitchen utensils – even a garlic press!
The dining area is conveniently situated alongside the kitchen
peninsular. One step up from here is a small hall, giving access
to
Bedroom One
A double-bedded room with built-in hanging space and shelving,
and chest of drawers.
Bathroom
Bath with shower attachment, wash basin and built-in cupboard.
Separate WC
First floor
The original staircase (a bit steep and narrow, and therefore
not suitable for the very elderly or for very young children)
leads up from the lounge area to
Bedroom Two
This is a lovely light and airy room with exposed original
chestnut roof timbers. It has two single beds, and a sofa. There
are fitted cupboards and a chest of drawers.
All beds have duvets and pillows.
Outside
To the front of the house is a lawned area with flower beds. A
lane runs to the side of the cottage and across from this is the
hay barn, rabbit hutches, a paddock which is sometimes home to
our geese and chickens (any leftover food gratefully
appreciated) and the vegetable plot.
The Orchard
A
few steps away behind the cottage, has a barbecue area, with gas
barbecue, garden table and chairs and sun (or shade) loungers.
During the summer season our normal changeover day is Saturday.
